In Memory of Esther Hannum

Ester Hannum"I can't believe it.
Can tell you a story.
Ester and I taught swimming lessons together in 1960-1962 together at Shaker Pines Lake../.we were both working for the Red Cross at the time, summer employment. I was the Life Guard at the "Lake House" ( I was 16 years old) at Shaker Pines...Ester and I taught many of our current citizens how to swim. She was then, and will always be in my memory a person decided to values..we went on to serve the ERTC..never realizing in 1962 that we shared a political philosophy, that we were both conservatives..and we both loved people. May the God we love bless her with a special place in his glorious Kingdom. God Bless Her soul.
May the peace of God Be with you."
Jack Tait

"I knew Ester for 35 years. She was a true republican . She loved the Bushes especially George 41. She always talked about my friendship with George Sr. Sister and how I got her to come to a womens Republican Dinner. We introduced her to Nancy Johnson. Special Times. any time I would meet with Nancy.... Ellis ( George 41 's) sister she would want to know all the details."
Alice Egan

"Esther truly was unique - a true one of a kind - and had forgotten more about Republican history and politics than any of us will ever know !!! She had some great stories. Did you know she was a "Goldwater Girl " ??? And could anyone quote Roberts Rules as well as Esther ????"
Monica Ryan

"Esther Hannum was a good friend to the Republican town committee and a mentor and strong advocate of mine. There wasn’t a problem I asked Esther where she didn’t know the complete answer and probably the statute that went along with it.

In my early days of being on the Town Committee, Esther invited me to many State Central meetings and “showed me the ropes,” as she would call it. She introduce me to everyone and loved to participate in the debates that always took place at these meetings.

When I became Chairman, Esther was always available to help encourage me and gave me all the time I needed to understand the nuances of the political environment.

Esther was a my mentor and my friend and I will miss her sitting in the front row at all of our conventions, caucus and town committee meetings, making sure the proper Roberts Rule was used and discussions were kept in order.

If there is one thing I learned and will never forget from Esther - the American flag must always be on the right side of the speaker, and God help you if it wasn’t, she would get up and move it. She can count on me keeping up her vigilant effort.

Esther favorite words: The treasurer's report will stand until audited. I will make sure that will always be the way.

Esther will be missed by all the members of the Town Committee, and me most of all."
Mary Ann Turner

"During one of my first meetings at the ERTC Ester had brought her Ronald Reagan memorabilia to memorialize President Reagan. I thought it was so wonderful how she shared her stories with the ERTC members. It was then I realized I was in the company of truly special people."
